Sourdough for Beginners

Sourdough can't be (properly) made in three hours, but in this class, we go through all the steps together, and you'll bake your bread at home the next day.

Gain the knowledge and confidence to bake your own loaf of artisan sourdough bread. Join me for an in-depth tutorial on making and baking a basic sourdough loaf using a sourdough starter and a Dutch oven. I will also share a cracker recipe to make with the sourdough ‘discard’, wine, and conversation.

Classes are small, with a maximum of eight people in a casual and comfortable setting! We will discuss how to fit a bread-baking routine into your lifestyle and maintain your sourdough starter.

Learn to make sourdough and discover all its health benefits. Find out how sourdough helps digestion and why good flour is essential. You will acquire the pure satisfaction, mindfulness, and joy of baking this fantastic bread. We will discuss techniques and terminology (general, this is for beginners!) so you can bake and share your nourishing bread daily.

You will leave with the following:

  • Sourdough starter
  • Recipes
  • Dough scraper
  • Banneton (bread-proofing basket)
  • A 2# bag of Sunrise Flour Mill Heritage Wheat Bread Blend Flour
  • Your dough (in the banneton basket) will be ready to bake the next day
  • Confidence to continue to hone your new craft!

You'll be a pro (and addicted to baking it!) in no time.

A light dinner will be served (in between shaping and folding). And of course you'll be able to taste some bread!

This class is for beginners, not for the seasoned sourdough baker. It will focus on caring for your starter, a simple sourdough formula, and step-by-step instructions on how to bake the bread and make it on your schedule!
